Spaldam's critique on Obama's Speach to the Kids
I personally don't remember a president addressing my while I was in school, but apparently it has happened a few times before.
Regardless, Obama's speech was very inspirational, though it did seem to have some undertones of his Liberal agenda in it.
Anyway, here it is:
I've actually enjoyed hearing Obama's speeches for one main reason. He is saying something I think the nation desperately needs to hear. Too many of us have expected too much for too long while putting in too little of our own efforts to achieve our goals. It truly does take hard work and perseverance to make something of one's self, and it also takes the hard work of many good individuals to make a nation truly great.
This same speech coming from a conservative president probably wouldn't have gotten any concern or scrutiny from all the concerned parents we keep hearing about, and most of that concern was centered around the questionnaire that was to be given to students after the speech; especially the one question that was thankfully removed which asked kids what they could do for President Obama. After all, a nation that is of the people, certainly isn't their to server their President; in fact it's quite the opposite in that the President, along with other elected officials, are there to server the people of this country.
I sincerely Hope his speech was inspirational and motivational to many kids that might otherwise not have been motivated. However, when you start to add it to many of Obama's agendas on "Green Jobs" that's was being lead by a self proclaimed communist, emergency powers to do unprecedented things during crises like pandemics, or knowing that socialized governments tend to bread lazy people, and you start to wonder if his speech was more of a conditioning of the upcoming generations to accept his "Fundamental Transformation of America".
Of course a single inspirational speech of this kind isn't going to brainwash anyone's kid, but from what I'm hearing, it's obvious that depending on the person's point of view and beliefs, his speech is and will continue to be interpreted in many different ways.

ObamaCare
I know that this is lengthy, but this is just a small sampling of what is going on in Washington to reform health care and what people are saying about it. I would urge you to educate yourself and then take action and call your senators and congressmen.
While the First section from "BreakDownOfAmerica.com" does seem a bit far fetched, I do believe some of what they say is based in truth even though it may be exaggerated to some degree or another. On the other Hand, most of "MoveOn.org"'s references they used to prove their point are pointing back to their own web-site or that of the White house they seem to love so much. Are you really going to trust someone who tries to prove something to you by referencing their own biased work? I guess you'll have to decide that for yourself.
What I do believe, is that the U.S. Constitution give absolutely no authority to the Federal government to provide any kind of Health Care and/or Health Insurance to the American people. Thus if we truly want to do this, and do it the right way, we need to be talking about a short few paragraph long Constitutional Amendment, not a 1000+ page long law that full of so much legal jargon and "pork" that nobody seems to know for sure what all is in it. The big question I would ask, is who will truly benefit from this bill? If it's anyone other then the American people (the vast majority of whom already have Health Insurance, or could afford it if they made it a priority, and ALL of whom already by law have Health Care available to them - it's really just a question of who's paying the bill).
Horrors in the ObamaCare Bill - from breakdownofamerica.com an obvious opponent of ObamaCare:
Since the "journalists" haven't read the 1,000 plus page long ObamaCare bill and all they want you to believe is that Obama is going to give everyone free cotton candy and ponies, then, due to their media malpractice, you may not know about the following atrocities in the Bill:

Continue reading to learn about the racial preferences mandated by the bill.
The Democrats’ health care bill creates a very significant financial incentive for medical schools and other entities to lower admission standards for “individuals who are from underrepresented minority groups” if that is what it takes to have the winning “demonstrated record”.
On page 879-880, the bill states that the Secretary of Health and Human Services:
“shall make grants to, or enter into contracts with, eligible entities . . . to operate a professional training program in the field of family medicine, general internal medicine, general pediatrics, or geriatrics, to provide financial assistance and traineeships and fellowships to those students, interns, residents or physicians who plan to work in or teach in the field of family medicine, general internal medicine, general pediatrics, or geriatrics.”
On page 881-882 the bill states:
“In awarding grants or contracts under this section, the Secretary shall give preference to entities that have a demonstrated record of the following: . . . Training individuals who are from underrepresented minority groups or disadvantaged backgrounds.”
On page 883 the bill states:
“The Secretary shall make grants to, or enter into contracts with, eligible entities . . . to operate or participate in an established primary care residency training program, which may include-(A) planning and developing curricula; (B) recruitment and training of residents; and (C) retention of faculty.”
On page 884-885 the bill states:
“In awarding grants and contracts . . . the Secretary shall give preference to entities that have a demonstrated record of training . . . individuals who are from underrepresented minority groups or disadvantaged backgrounds . . . .”
On page 887-889 the bill states that the
“Secretary shall make grants to, or enter into contracts with, eligible entities . . . to operate a professional training program for oral health professionals, to provide financial assistance and traineeships and fellowships to those professionals who plan to work in or teach general, pediatric, or public health dentistry, or dental hygiene, to establish, maintain, or improve academic administrative units (including departments, divisions, or other appropriate units) in the specialties of general, pediatric, or public health dentistry, to operate a loan repayment program for full-time faculty in a program of general, pediatric, or public health dentistry.”
On page 889-890 the bill states:
“In awarding grants or contracts under this section, the Secretary shall give preference to entities that have a demonstrated record of the following: . . . Training individuals who are from underrepresented minority groups or disadvantaged backgrounds.”
On page 908-909 the bill states: “The Secretary shall award grants and contracts to eligible entities” to do the same things for the field of public health as the Secretary can do for dentistry.
On page 909 the bill states:
“In awarding grants or contracts under this section, the Secretary shall give preference to entities that have a demonstrated record of the following: . . . Training individuals who are from underrepresented minority groups or disadvantaged backgrounds.”

From an e-mail forwarded to me, orignally from MoveOn.org, an obvious supporter of "ObamaCare":
The health care fight has turned ugly, fast. Right-wing mobs are crashing congressional town halls,1 lies are spreading via anonymous email chains,2 and Sarah Palin bizarrely said that President Obama was going to set up a "death panel," whatever that is.3
Many of these claims are just incredible—but if we don't fight back with the truth, the right will continue to poison the health care debate. So as part of our Real Voices for Change campaign this August, we're working to set the record straight.
. . .
Top Five Health Care Reform Lies—and How to Fight Back
Lie #1: President Obama wants to euthanize your grandma!!!
The truth: These accusations—of "death panels" and forced euthanasia—are, of course, flatly untrue. As an article from the Associated Press puts it: "No 'death panel' in health care bill."4 What's the real deal? Reform legislation includes a provision, supported by the AARP, to offer senior citizens access to a professional medical counselor who will provide them with information on preparing a living will and other issues facing older Americans.5
Lie #2: Democrats are going to outlaw private insurance and force you into a government plan!!!
The truth: With reform, choices will increase, not decrease. Obama's reform plans will create a health insurance exchange, a one-stop shopping marketplace for affordable, high-quality insurance options.6 Included in the exchange is the public health insurance option—a nationwide plan with a broad network of providers—that will operate alongside private insurance companies, injecting competition into the market to drive quality up and costs down.7
If you're happy with your coverage and doctors, you can keep them.8 But the new public plan will expand choices to millions of businesses or individuals who choose to opt into it, including many who simply can't afford health care now.
Lie #3: President Obama wants to implement Soviet-style rationing!!!
The truth: Health care reform will expand access to high-quality health insurance, and give individuals, families, and businesses more choices for coverage. Right now, big corporations decide whether to give you coverage, what doctors you get to see, and whether a particular procedure or medicine is covered—that is rationed care. And a big part of reform is to stop that.
Health care reform will do away with some of the most nefarious aspects of this rationing: discrimination for pre-existing conditions, insurers that cancel coverage when you get sick, gender discrimination, and lifetime and yearly limits on coverage.9 And outside of that, as noted above, reform will increase insurance options, not force anyone into a rationed situation.
Lie #4: Obama is secretly plotting to cut senior citizens' Medicare benefits!!!
The truth: Health care reform plans will not reduce Medicare benefits.10 Reform includes savings from Medicare that are unrelated to patient care—in fact, the savings comes from cutting billions of dollars in overpayments to insurance companies and eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse.11
Lie #5: Obama's health care plan will bankrupt America!!!
The truth: We need health care reform now in order to prevent bankruptcy—to control spiraling costs that affect individuals, families, small businesses, and the American economy.
Right now, we spend more than $2 trillion dollars a year on health care.12 The average family premium is projected to rise to over $22,000 in the next decade13—and each year, nearly a million people face bankruptcy because of medical expenses.14 Reform, with an affordable, high-quality public option that can spur competition, is necessary to bring down skyrocketing costs. Also, President Obama's reform plans would be fully paid for over 10 years and not add a penny to the deficit.15
We're closer to real health care reform than we've ever been—and the next few weeks will decide whether it happens. We need to make sure the truth about health care reform is spread far and wide to combat right wing lies.

Obama for King
H. J. Res. 5, Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to repeal the twenty-second article of amendment, thereby removing the limitation on the number of terms an individual may serve as President
According to OpenCongress.org: ". . . Over the past six congressional sessions, several members of Congress have introduced similar legislation, including Sen. Harry Reid in 1989 ( S.J.Res. 36). As is likely the case in the 111th Congress, the resolutions have never proceeded out of committee. Furthermore, given its past history, it is not likely that such resolutions have been or are currently tied to any specific presidential session."
But now that all the Obama Loving Liberals are in control of congress, will this bill actually get passed? This is typically one of the first steps for any dictator to take over a republic or democracy: Get the laws out of the way that will keep him from becoming all powerful...

Death and taxes
I was listening to the radio on my way home from work on Thursday and they were talking about the death of Pop Legend Michel Jackson. Instead of celebrating the good things Mr. Jackson had done in his life, some of the callers instead were suggesting his death was some kind of punishment from God; despite the fact that we have no real proof of his wrong doing. My first thought was "how short sighted that opinion is", and it reconfirmed for me how my beliefs help take the sing out of death.
When everyone is destined to die, and it's really just a matter of when, how can we say death is a punishment (unless you torcher them to death) especially when you believe as I do that death is not the end. Rather I believe death to be a necessary next step in our eternal progression. Instead of grieving, I find myself hopping Mr. Jackson has now found the peace he needs.
Don't get me wrong, it's certainly sad when loved ones leave us, and I do believe in capitol "punishment", both as a deterrent and as a way of dealing with people whom have done such terrible things that society has no other way to truly deal with them.
I'm not even talking about rapists or pedophiles, as I think we should castrate them instead; rather I'm talking about people who are likely to do there horrific acts again and again if ever given the chance. In that case death is a way of protecting society and preventing them from committing further sin. From this perspective, death can even be seen as merciful. They will also be further along their way to the true judgment and punishment of God that is well beyond anything we can ever inflict in this mortal life.
So what do taxes have to do with this, other then supposedly being the other unavoidable thing in life? While many people are busy morning over dead celebrities that they don't even really know, Congress has been busy finding new ways to tax us and ultimately destroy more jobs in the name of protecting us from a still poorly understood phenomenon commonly referred to as "Climate Change"; formally known as "Global Warming", and in the '70s it was referred to as "Global Cooling".
What I'm getting to here is the single largest tax ever to be put on the U.S.A. In a single session of congress: cleverly named "Cap and Trade". In an already slow economic time, this bill will only hurdle us even closer to a full-on depression, and no I don't think a depression is inevitable, or at least I didn't until the Democrats took over Washington D.C. ealier this year. Quite honestly, the passage of this bill is something i think most Americans should be more graved by then the passing of a couple of celebrities (with exception to those who actually knew the deceased personally).
As the economy continues to plummet, our liberal government will continue to find new reasons why they "have to" take over more aspects of our lives to keep us from hurting our selves. The reality is that it's the government putting stumbling block in our path that is causing us to trip and fall. Sure a reasonable amount of regulation is good to protect the people against tyrants and thieves, but I believe the U.S. government has taken this way too far. My biggest fear is that we are not even close to being done with all the encroachments the government is going to make into our lives and our wallets.
The moral here is that our country is going to continue on a downward spiral until we start getting our priorities straight, and getting involved. We can talk about it all day long, but until we actually do something, all we'll get is more of Obama's "Change". I say he can keep his change, and I'll keep my dollars.

We can talk about it all day long, but until we actually do something, all we'll get is more of Obama's "Change". I say he can keep his change, and I'll keep my dollars.
If things get bad enough will the government say they "have to" step in a take complete control over the economy and all businesses? Either way, it looks like we have until 2020 before the worst of it kicks in, so lets get started on looking for good people to represent us that will repeal this economy killing bill. On the other had, maybe we'll all be driving electric cars by then... yeah I know, not likely; though I'm sure there'll be a few around by then.

Obama's First 100 days
100 Days, 100 Mistakes
Hate Crimes? - aren't all crimes hateful?
Swine Flue Hoax
Mixed Messages On Torture
Controversial Appointments like Sebelius.
What Obama’s First 100 Days Have Meant for 50-Plus America
Truthfully, the Democratic party has had control over congress for over 2 years now, so what difference has he really made? All I can think of is emboldening the Liberal Democrats to start doing what they've been wanting to do since Clinton was tiring to work with a Republican majority in Congress.

His biggest blunder so far in my view is telling Turkey we are not a Christian Nation despite the fact that the U.S.A. was started by Christians seeking religious freedom.

Obama's Economy
Thanks to Glen for posting this, it reminded me of the old 80's sitcom:

Is Obama really responsible for the current state of the economy. I'd have to say no, but he certainly hasn't helped the stock market or anyone with any kind of investments. so it must be Bush's fault then right? I'd say wrong again. Bush may not have been the best president for the economy of the U.S. but it wasn't until congress had a Democratic majority that the economy started going down hill and gas prices were rocketing upwards.
So who's fault is it really. I'd suggest you may even want to look back as far as Clinton.
Just the other Day Obama was claiming the economy was fundamentally sound. Has he been in as president long enough to make it that way? I don't think so.

Obama the Evil Scientist
Yesterday's Obama made yet another Executive Order making good on his promise to reverse the federal restrictions on embryonic stem cell (ESC) research. According to the FRC "the final order turned out to be far more extreme than ESC's biggest proponents had hoped. Most believed the President would maintain some semblance of restraint and allow experimentation only on those embryos discarded by fertility clinics. Unfortunately, no such limits exist. The President not only cracked ajar the door to ethically-challenged research, he flung it wide open--leaving the very scientists who demanded this money potentially in charge of its limitations."
Despite President Obama justifications for his policy, the truth remains that ESC research has produced nothing more then cancerous tumors, and a continued cheapening of human life.
Robert George, a professor at Princeton University, commented a little bit ". . . this opens the door for human beings for research in which they are destroyed and that's just contrary to the basic principles not only of the Judeo-Christian moral tradition but of the American tradition that says each of us as human beings throughout our lives has dignity and worth and cannot be reduced to the mere status of an object or disposable research material . . . Jamie Thompson . . . was the first person to isolate human embryonic stem cells . . . he went down another path and created a technology for which he's likely to win the Nobel Prize called induced pluripotent stem cells which can be created without using embryos or destroying embryos or killing embryos. So yes, even somebody like Thompson recognizes that there's a huge ethical issue here. But President Obama's just swept past it, just swept past it."
Even Ian Wilmut, the creator of Dolly the cloned sheep, turned away from human cloning to iPSC research.

U.S. Presidential Inauguration 2009
I've always considered myself to be someone of a moderate and yet still rather conservative in many ways. Despite the supposed liberalness of Obama, while listening to the Presidential inauguration this last week, I found many of his words to be particularly inspiring and truthful.
In particular he said, ". . . our economy is badly weakened - a consequence of . . . our collective failure to make hard choices . . . the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many . . . but know this America, they will be met. On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear. Unity of purpose over conflict and discord . . . the time has come to set aside childish things. The time has come to re-affirm our enduring spirit, to chose our better history, to cary forward that precious gift, that nobel idea . . . that God given promise that all are equal, all are free, and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness . . . greatness is never a given. It must be earned . . . it has been the risk takers, the doers, the makers of things . . . who have carried us up the log rugged path towards prosperity and freedom . . . these men and women struggled and sacrificed and worked until their hands were raw, so that we might have a better life . . . this is the journey we continue today. We remain the most prosperous, powerful nation on earth . . . but our time of standing pat, and protecting narrow interests and putt off unpleasant decision, that time has surly past. Starting today we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begging again the work of re-making America. For everywhere we look, there is work to be done . . . some question the scale of our ambitions . . . there memories are short, for they have forgotten what this country has already done. What free men and women can achieved when imagination is joined to common purpose, and necessity to courage . . . Our challenges may be new, the instruments with witch we meet them, may be new, but those values upon which our success depends: honesty and hard work, courage and fair play, tolerance and curiosity, loyalty and patriotism; These things are old. These things are true. They have been the quite force of progress throughout our history. What is demanded then is a return to these truths. What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility . . . we have duties to ourselves, our nation and the world. Duties that we . . . seaze glady. Firm in . . . giving our all to a difficult task . . . God bless the United Stats of America."

He stressed a need for unity within our nation to help fight off rumors and threats of our downfall. I found a glimmer of hope that our federal government might get back to the things it's done best over the last century, and away from things it has done poorly. Certainly many of the ideas he mentioned in his speech were debatable as to how effective or appropriate they will be, but I hope that he will have an objective and constitutionally sound view of what will work, and what is appropriate.
I still have a great deal of concern for many of the things I've heard are in Obama's agenda, but the more I get to know him, the more I find myself hopeful that he will make the right decisions to enable our country to stay hard at work; keeping it the greatest country on this earth. He even talked about staying true to the values our founding fathers tried to instill into our government, and the hope that staying true to those values will allow America to once again be good example to other nations; ultimately making the world a safer place.
Leaders from my own church were present at the inauguration and expressed similar sentiments:

I was particularly pleased that Obama allowed God to be present at this event, and showed respect to the Almighty in many way; even though not as strongly as other presidents have in the past.

I'm sure as the next four years carry on, I'll find plenty to disagree with Obama on, but I also pray that we see this country make great progress down the right paths. I find myself agreeing with Obama, that it will not happen without hard work from all of us, which reminds me of the famous words of JFK: "ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country".

My letter to Obama
Although I do worry about some of the things Obama has on his agenda, that most Democrats (who now have majority control of congress) will likely support, I actually have found myself felling better about him then Mr. McCain. I never liked McCain (even being a moderately-conservative republican-leaning voter) as a presidential Candidate and never thought he had a chance at wining.
I actually ended up doing a protest vote for Baldwin (Constitution party) to express my dislike for the options (and wish more people would do this instead of voting out of "fear of the other guy" or simply not voting) as I fell my voice is heard more clearly this way.
I think Obama will actually turn out to be more moderate then some are painting him to be, but I'm also sure I'll find plenty to disagree with him on.
My suggestion is to all of you is to go to his website http://change.gov/page/s/yourstory and tell him your story. Be polite and honest, and you may be surprised at the kind of influence you can have towards affecting the kind of change you want to see. You likely won’t get exactly what you want but you’ll be much closer to it then what you'll get just sitting around and complaining about it.
Here is the letter I wrote:
I've always believed that life is hard. By this I don't mean malicious, but rather challenging. I've also learned that the things that are most worth living for are the things we must work hardest to archive, or that require the most work; such as faith, family, good friendships, and a prosperous career (yes in order of importance). For this nation to be great, the people in it need to be great, and that means a willingness to work hard to earn the things that are most worth having. Our society today feels too entitled to things they need to learn to work harder for, and then get rewarded generously for their hard work. The greatest generation in the country (40's & 60s), came out of the hardest times this country has ever seen; because they learned to work hard for what they had.
The roll I'd like my federal government to play in this, is simple yet effective regulation to insure that not only corporations are prevented from taking advantage and usurping power from the people, but that governments are also prevented from interfering with our ability to work hard to earn and keep the tings we work for.
I'd also like my government to focus more on the nations infrastructure, national defense (not necessarily foreign defense) and basic standards related to commerce and business; in such a way that it enables the individual to do a better job at archiving the goals they see best for themselves. I believe that as our government steps back, leaving behind opportunity, the people of this nation will find their ability to stand up and fill those opportunities; while having minimal government assistance to insure the people can take those opportunities they are not taken advantage of, through simple but affective regulations.
I believe the constitution of this great country has enabled this country to be great, so long as the people in it are willing to be great; however, it has been walked all over in the last few decades by both sides of the isle, judges who misinterpret it based on their own agendas, and the people who have willingly accepted laws that aspire to regulate and control our freedoms. From this has come some of the biggest problems this country faces today. Basically I see the main problem as an oversize federal government controlled by bureaucrats, special interests, and over-sized monopolistic corporations, that usurps powers that according to the 10th amendment belong to the individual states and the people. I believe our gun regulations and criminal laws are already stricter then is necessary to discourage criminal activity and may even contribute to the delinquency of otherwise law abiding people. This not to diminish the federal governments responsibility towards oversight, but certainly this oversight needs to not be so overly intrusive. The real answer to our social problems is not more regulations and laws, but to untie our hands and enable the people to step up and do what's right for their families and their communities.
Fiscal responsibility is also a big concern of mine, and I strongly disagree with the "Bailout" loans that have been given over the last few months; especially because it's causing a nearly 1 trillion dollar spending deficit - the highest in history - even when accounting for inflation. If there's one thing that I believe will dis-stabilize an economy and cause increasingly larger fluctuations in inflation/deflation and prosperity/poverty it is an economy fueled by debt with the unreasonable expectation of consistent future inflation; usually forced upon us by huge increases in the money supply through deficit spending, international borrowing, and printing of new money. This benefits the rich and the large corporations, but tends to only hurts the people this government is supposed to protect.
I must admit, President-Elect Obama, I did not vote for you, but I also did not vote for McCain, as I feel both parties have lost touch with the "average Joe". I truly hope that the change you endeavor to bring to this country will help enable an improvement in the life and livelihood of the "average Joe".

Oil Crisis? Why?
Ever Heard of the Bakken Formation? Well you have now.
http://www.usgs.gov/newsroom/article.asp?ID=1911
We actually have a great deal of oil reserves right here in the good old USA. So why aren't we using it? Could it be the same reason the democratically controlled congress has refused time and again to allow energy legislation in this country to even come to a vote?
"On the Senate floor Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) offered several Unanimous Consent requests to lift the ban on offshore drilling for oil. The Democrats objected. Senator McConnell continued to ask, "how much do American citizens have to pay for gas for the Congressional Democrats to change their mind? $4.50? $5.00? $7.50?" Finally Senator McConnell asked if the Democrats would allow a vote if gas prices were to reach $10 a gallon? The Democrats continuously objected and said no!" - https://www.frc.org/get.cfm?i=AL08H01&f=AL08H01&t=e or https://www.frc.org/get.cfm?i=AL08H01&f=WA08H11
No wonder there approval rating is now at an all time low. - http://www.gallup.com/poll/108856/Congressional-Approval-Hits-RecordLow-14.aspx
Maybe it's truly time for change as Barak Obama has been saying. But in this case, Barak is actually not in favor of change at all. - http://www.gop.com/news/NewsRead.aspx?Guid=24e094b9-da5e-4220-bd43-5c5adf0e2e27
Who is? Well McCain of course. And don't forget the Libertarians, and Constitutionalist; they are certainly for less government and a free market that is able to do its own oil exploration.
I though the Democrats were the party of the "little people", the poor, and the average hard working citizens that are hurting the most because of these high gas prices? Apparently they don't care about the overall inflation in prices we have seen this year especially not these higher gas prices. Do they think they are somehow helping the people by keeping prices high, or are they more concerned about the environmentalists? The same environmentalists that want $5 a gallon gas (can you say "Al").
Personally, I think we are fools to put so much reliance on any other countries for our most basic needs, including food, energy of any kind, and our ability to maintain our own infrastructure and manufacturing capabilities. We need to be more self sufficient, not only as a nation, but also as individuals.
